On May 10th, SLAVI SHKAROV NATIONAL COMPETITION for YOUNG THEATER DIRECTOR, which was held for the fourth time, ended in Ruse. This year's winner is Rostislav Georgiev with his performance based on Samuel Beckett's novel Mercier and Camier. He received this recognition from a committee consisting of Ina Shkarova - theater scholar and daughter of the patron of the competition, Kosyo Stanev - actor, Ivaylo Nenov - director and Plamen Harmandzhiev - theater scholar. The prize will allow the young artist to stage a play of his choice with the troupe of Sava Ognyanov Drama Theater during the next theater season. This year, another award was presented by the newly established Kosio Stanev Foundation. It is awarded for acting achievements in a performance from the final selection of the competition and first steps in a professional theater, and its first winner is the actress Alexandra Maidavska from the troupe of Stoyan Bachvarov Drama Theater - Varna. This recognition brought her the role of Masha in the play Vladimir by Matiaj Zupancic and directed by Nikolay Kenarov.
In three consecutive evenings, on the main stage in the Ruse theater, the audience saw performances, selected by Tinka Nikolova for the 2021 edition which, due to the complicated situation with Covid in the country, had to be rescheduled for this year. The audience in Ruse had the opportunity to watch Demons by Albert Camus, based on the Fyodor Dostoevsky’s novel, directed by Boyan Arsov, produced by NATFA Krastyo Sarafov - Sofia, Mercie and Camille by Samuel Beckett, directed by Rostislav Georgiev, produced by Sfumato Theatre Workshop - Sofia and Vladimir by Matiaj Zupancic with director Nikolay Kenarov, production of Stoyan Bachvarov Drama Theater - Varna.
May 11th marked the 34th anniversary of the death of the emblematic theater director Slavi Shkarov. Colleagues and friends with whom he has worked over the years define him as bright, challenging, daring, with remarkable, provocative performances, exciting with his civic position.
